Life After College – Graduation Portraits the Woodlands TX

Choosing Your Wall Portrait Size, Style and Format: The Woodlands Portrait Photographer

The family portrait is an important investment, so it’s essential to ensure you have carefully considered the overall look, style and proportion for the final piece. When your family, senior, engagement or maternity portrait session is completed, I invite clients for an in person Viewing Appointment so I can personally help you choose the perfect size, ratio and medium for your wall portrait. I’ll show you samples of the products I offer, so you can inspect and touch the products yourself.

For gallery wrapped canvases, these come ready to hang and you do not need to frame them. Metals are designed to be hung without a frame to show off the superior gloss, and the sturdy waterproof and UV resistant design means you don’t have to worry about sun or water damage. For photographic prints I offer complimentary styrene mounting so you can mount your portrait on the wall without a frame, and it’s thin enough to put in wall frames.  Here is a comparison of a senior portrait from a session in the Woodlands.

WITH FRAMES

OPTION 1:  By using a larger frame, you can highlight your wall portrait with accent matting around a smaller size print. The portrait keeps  it’s original ratio and composition intact with matching coloured mat before being inserted into a  frame. The matted frame means you don’t have to crop the original shot. There is a wide variety of colors and styles to choose from, for custom or traditional matted frames.

OPTION 2: Without matting. This option zooms in larger on the image, but crops out some of the background and the subject.

WITHOUT FRAMES

 

OPTION 1: A mounted print, metal or canvas without the frame. The traditional camera ratio for older cameras was 4:5, which created the infamous 8×10 desk print. As a wall portrait, your image could be anything from a 16×20 to a 32×40 or larger. Since the camera shoots at a 2:3 ratio, this crops your image.

OPTION 2: A mounted print, metal or canvas without the frame, left in it’s original composition and ratio. This size works well for image of standing subjects, where you want to keep the surrounding environment. For this image, it’s the best choice for this particular image to keep the beautiful field around her.

The Woodlands High School Senior Photographer

I love everything about this senior session! This is the first part of Lexi’s senior portrait photoshoot, since she had so many beautiful outfits and sets in there it would be impossible to put all her amazing shots in one post!

She had the most perfect weather, the perfect clothes, and the perfect hair and make up (done by my preferred stylist), so it all came together beautifully. In this post, I’m putting the more “nature” inspired photos we took around this Woodlands location, with her pretty dresses in the  amazing golden light amid the greenery.

What to Wear for Spring Senior Portraits

Getting ready for senior pictures? I have already posted about how to wear your favourite cowboy boots for your senior portraits, so go check out that blog post here: What to Wear for Senior Pictures in the Woodlands and Spring – Cowboy Boots Edition. With spring sessions almost fully booked for the class of 2016, let’s talk spring dresses!

You have your trendy outfit, your favourite jeans, your letterman jacket, and maybe your prom dress or your favourite cosplay costume all packed up and ready to go. To round out your senior portraits, and celebrate spring, consider showing your sweet girly side with a flowy spring dress in an airy neutral or pastel shade, to coordinate with the blooming spring wildflowers.

THE ESSENTIAL STYLE
Do you see yourself in a long plain dress, with a big floppy sunhat and espadrilles adding colour and character?   Or would you rather wear this season’s trendy print, in a fresh spring shade?  Choose the colour palette you want to build off, from neutral to vibrant florals, taking into consideration the vibe you want to give off — sweet and innocent, fresh and bright, or airy and emotive.

THE CLASSIC WHITE DRESS
One of the freshest looks for spring is the classic white dress. It can be styled up or down, hippie or hipster, uptown or country. The beauty of the plain white dress is that you let the supporting colours and accessories take center stage. Adding blue or teal feels beachy and an ode to summer, while adding warm tones like coral or sunset orange feel earthy and floral. And any footwear — from high heels to bare toes — won’t look out of place.

ADD ACCESSORIES
Glam your outfit up or down with hats, scarves, belts and boots. Go shabby chic with tasseled headpieces  or boho style with a floral crown with barefeet. Keep the colour tones in mind and try to mesh your accessories so they make sense — natural fibres with earthy toned clothing, petite and girly for feminine and airy sundresses, nude heels with classic styles. You can even add on matching props, such as umbrellas, flowers, feathers or shawls.

Country Style Texan Senior Pictures – The Woodlands Photographer

This beautiful senior chose one of my favourite spots for her senior portraits! With some old style buildings, the country vibe and the natural elements like wood and long grass, this whole senior session was so much fun to style and shoot for that pure Texan look with her boots and a gauzy white shirt.

Since we shoot for 3 hours, my seniors get multiple outfit changes, for several different looks. This senior started with a gorgeous formal black dress with lace, and her hair was perfectly styled with long ringlets at my preferred stylist.

We walked around the shops and found some nice buildings with geometric shapes to add interest to her senior portraits, using architecture. This is always adds a nice variety to a senior session, especially when a portion of the shoot will be done in a field or grassy areas without landmarks.

The Woodlands Photographer – End of Year 2015

I want to say a HUGE thank you to all my clients from 2015 for making it a wonderful year full of fun sessions! I remember each and every one of you, and I really enjoyed meeting all of you and sharing some laughs while we made beautiful pictures! I put together some collages to celebrate all the fantastic faces I had the good luck and opportunity to meet this past year  — from high school seniors, to corporate executives, to tiny little newborns, and all the families inbetween! Thank you so much for making my job so easy and for allowing me to capture all these moments. Senior and her Horse – The Woodlands and Magnolia

This gorgeous high school senior came all the way from Austin to have her senior portraits taken in Magnolia with her horse, and what a fabulous session it was! This is the first part of her senior portrait session, with her riding habit around the barn and with her beloved horse.

As with all high school senior photography sessions with Shannon Stroubakis in the Woodlands and surrounding areas, we shot for three hours with multiple outfit changes and Miss Natalee had her hair and make up professionally done by my expert stylist in a private salon room in the Woodlands.  At our Pre Consultation, we went over the perfect styling for her senior portrait session, and came up with the best way to showcase her amazingly unique style and personality!

These portraits with her sweet horse were just magical. The light and this stunning dress could not have been more beautiful.

The Bohemian White Dress – The Woodlands Senior Photographer

Having a special theme for your session is a super way to make your senior portraits fun and different, and few themes are prettier, more ethereal or more enchanting than a boho style shoot. Elegant and feminine, with a flowing white dress and flower accents, the boho style senior portrait shoot is always popular with senior girls for a reason — it’s natural, organic and the poses are so pretty and inspiring.

This beautiful girl shot the first portion of her senior session in classic Texas country style, then switched to her bohemian inspired white dress for the second half. It’s almost like getting TWO sets of senior pictures! The natural ones, with portraits for the wall and album. And the themed ones, to have fun, let loose and get a little creative for senior portraits that make a statement about you. The Woodlands Senior Style – Hats, Headbands and Headpieces

For your senior pictures, adding a touch of whimsy, glam or style to your photoshoot is as easy as a simple accessory. Many of my senior portrait clients take their senior pictures to the next level with boho leather braided headpieces, flower garlands, beaded headbands or seasonal hats, to add a little flair!

This braided leather head wrap is all the rage for a boho inspired look. Organic and earthy, it goes well with simple outfits such as a white dress or sheath, or flowing shift dress.

For the boho look, the flower garland headpiece is always a popular choice and is really in style these days. Your flowers can be as simple or as elaborate as you want! Use colorful flowers and pair it with a white dress, string small blooms for a simple look, or match the flower color to the dress for overall color harmony.

Pretty Natural Senior Pictures – Creekside and East Shore The Woodlands

This gorgeous senior wanted to mix it up for senior pictures in the Woodlands and have a variety of styles to show off all sides of her – from the casual and natural, to the soft and girly, to the dramatic and glamorous. We chose two locations for different elements, with a field and flowers and golden sun, and some pathways for framing, and then off to the picturesque white picket fence with red blooms for the final hour of her senior session.

This natural location is perfect for the casual outfit, with trees and flowers and a little pond for an environmental feel. Bringing a casual outfit, like jeans or shorts, is a good idea since it allows for seated poses that won’t work in a dress.

Moving into this beautiful flower field right at sunset, we caught some amazing hazy light. This light is perfect for soft, ethereal portraits, with a golden glow. Her super trendy romper was a great match for this environment, in peony pink and stylishly cut on the sides.

Then it was off to our second location, at East Shore in the Woodlands, to catch the last rays of light on the red blooms. She had a perfect day for her senior pictures, and we found some gorgeous directional light at the white gates. This pretty location was perfect for both outfits, the pink romper and the classy little black dress.

To personalize her senior pictures, this senior paid homage to her Sri Lankan heritage with a traditional osari dress and pose. The white picket fence makes an interesting backdrop with leading lines and red flowers on their sides to frame her.

Old Hollywood Style Glamour – Senior Photography the Woodlands

Fun and Quirky Seniors in the Woodlands – Senior Photographer

All my clients here in the Woodlands, Spring and Conroe have such style and personality, it’s so fun to meet each new senior and get pictures of their individuality! This senior chose classic portraits for her first set, and for this second set she let her fun and quirky personality loose for some portraits unique as she is — complete with fun props!

So we got creative for this second half, for some different environmental portraits unlike what you see from most standard senior photography. I like to get some collaborative and creative shots during a senior shoot, and my clients always have great ideas for poses too!

I really like it when seniors get into creative mode for their senior pictures, coming up with fun props (like this HUGE calculator and geek chic glasses!) and pose ideas.  I really like the humour she brought to her senior session, it was so much fun to shoot!

Pretty and Natural Senior Portraits – The Woodlands and Spring TX

With unlimited outfit changes and so many location backdrops, it’s hard to fit all of one senior session into one post! Check out the second half of this senior photography session here in the Woodlands, using more of the natural elements of this location and the last few outfit changes, and be sure to take a peek at the first half here!

I encourage variety in your senior photos, and mixing it up with your homecoming or prom dress, some formal wear, and then dressing it down with some trendy pieces or casual clothes for a relaxed feel. This senior chose pretty sundresses and her favourite pair of skinny jeans and a cute trendy top.

The eyes are the window to your soul, so we’ll show off your gorgeous eyes with some pretty headshots. These are perfect for if you need some natural, but stunning, pictures if you rush next year at your University!

When shooting, my goal is to find locations that have the elements you are looking for in your senior portraits — greenery, flowers, staircases, trees, bridges, tall grasses or busy streets. But most importantly for me, is the beauty and quality of the light in the location you choose. I find the corners of the setting that has pretty, flattering light to make your senior pictures shine and bring magic to your photoshoot.

After you finish off the set in the trendy outfit of the season (maxi dresses are perfect for spring and late summer senior sessions!) change into your some jeans and sandals for some more casual and natural portraits of you, just as you are. These are always your mom’s favourites!

Lastly, don’t forget your class ring, letterman jacket, band or cheerleading uniform, or an homage to your sports team. These little things make you unique, and you’ll want to remember your hobbies and accomplishments!

The Woodlands Senior Portraits – Show Your Smile

This sweet and cheerful senior was so easy to photograph – her sunny personality just shone through in every portrait! We chose a location in the Woodlands for her senior photos, where the garden provided a lot of pretty greenery to match her down to earth and easy going nature. We almost got rained out, but we crossed our fingers and ended up with a beautiful day with some cloud cover and light sun, a perfect shooting day for her senior pictures!

I love her outfit choice here —  the classic white dress and jean jacket combination is perfect for senior pictures! Throw in the cowboy boots, and now you’re Texas style!

Senior Boy Portraits in the Woodlands – Just Add a Truck

What guys want from their senior portrait session and what girls want are usually very, very different things. Here at Shannon Stroubakis Photography in Spring and the Woodlands, my goal is to create a photoshoot for your senior pictures that gives you what you want and what you need so you’re entirely happy with your senior pictures.  So for boys, who don’t want to fuss and don’t need a long session to accommodate various fashion and hair styles, I have a special mini shoot designed just for them. An hour in length, a small collection of amazing photos for your graduation cards and announcements, a proofbook so you have them in printed form, and still enough time to get several outfits in there as well.

For this College Park senior, his vision for his senior pictures was to include his favourite possession — his truck! We made that happen by driving it into the field with plenty of space (and no distracting elements like a parking lot full of cars or telephone poles) and getting a variety with both close up portraits and sweeping wide angle shots. Then we moved out to the field for some classic portraits for the announcements.

The Woodlands Senior Photographer – Senior Style

One thing I love about my job is I get to meet clients here in the Woodlands, Spring and Conroe who are in such a fantastic time in their lives — graduating from high school, getting ready for prom, celebrating their senior year, and looking forward to what the next year has in store for them.  It’s such a fun time, and everyone is always excited!

For senior pictures, we want to wrap all that excitement into a great day of shooting and just having fun! For the girls, their hair and make up has been professionally styled by an amazing stylist I’ve arranged for them, so they’re relaxed and ready for the shoot. I meet with all my clients before the session, so we already know exactly what types of shots we are after!

This lovely senior student from College Park had a fabulous sense of style. Beautiful, colourful and a little quirky! I love the combination of the fun teal dress with the spunky red heels.
