When To Have New Headshots Taken – The Woodlands Photographer

Have you been debating getting new headshots, but aren’t sure if it’s necessary? Or maybe you just really dread being in front of the camera, and are looking to put it off? We all know that headshots are essential for business people in all industries, but even if you aren’t in a corporate environment you might still need to get a great headshot of yourself. So how do you know when it’s time to update your headshots?

YOU HAVE CHANGED INDUSTRIES
Your headshot should represent you and your industry. If you have changed’ jobs, or are considering a career change, you might consider updating your headshots. Maybe you’ve moved from a casual working environment to one where suits and ties are not optional, or you’ve left your corporate job to open your own small business. Your headshot will say a lot about you and your work, so market yourself accordingly.

IT’S BEEN MORE THAN 5 YEARS
You should change your headshot as you age, to keep it current and accurately represent you. Every 2-3 years is a general timeframe for getting new shots done.

YOUR LOOKS HAVE CHANGED
This is especially true for women, who tend to change their looks often with their hairstyle and colour. If your headshot shows you as a redhead with short hair, but you’re now a long haired blonde, you’ll want to update to your current style. You want the people who meet you in person to recognize you from your portrait.

IT’S OUT OF STYLE
Clothes, hairstyles, make up and even headshot fashions go out of style. Think of those laser light school shots from the 80’s or 90’s Grease-style glamour shots. If your headshot has an outdated sense of fashion, modernize it. The current trend for headshots is away from the traditional studio  and outside for a cosmopolitan feel.
